4 successful tips:

*** We all are public speakers --> We are always doing public speaking ***
Excellence:
- Excellence is a habit
- We all have standards
- We are like diamonds, we need to continue to polish it to achieve excellence
- We can all do better because we’re never done (incomplete project)
- Continue to learn at all times/striving for excellence
- Excellence is a continuous pursuit
- Excellence: “wind beneath your wings” –E.R. Haas
- ASK: What gets you excited/what are you passionate about?
- Always stay to what is true to you
- Can either react or respond to your everyday occurring
- Do self reflection need to determine the real purpose
Attitude:
- “Attitude determines altitude”
- Can choose to have a positive attitude or negative attitude
- Life is all about the experience; we have obstacles in life, but attitude will determine how to respond or react to it
- Life is about how we perceive events that occur in our lives
- You get to choose what kind of attitude you have
- Always try to be present in the moment (i.e. should not be on the phone while people are talking to you)
- Those who continue to learn = successful --> ABL Always Be Learning
- We can never be know-it-alls (We think we do know everything but we don't)
- Get out of comfort zone
- The only way you can fail is if you quit and stop trying
- Public speaking: the fear of failure
- When you were born, two natural fears were fear of falling or fear of loud noises
- Everything after that is a learned fear
- Should not care what others think because not all of us think of the same thoughts at the same time
- There are no mistakes, only moments of discovery
- 75% population have a fear of public speaking
Club for Toastmaster at Harper (3 different days):

- Attitude, effective communication, getting message across = vital
- Need to practice communication and keep practicing
- Speaking is a muscle: need to continue to practice it
- Learn to reduce filler words: um, like, etc.
- Impromptu speeches
- Receive feedback (constructive), not criticism
