Service Project
Subject: Service Opportunity to Impact Homelessness
For Student Club Liaisons, Faculty Coordinators, and Harper Colleagues
If you are looking for a time-limited service learning experience for students or yourself ...
Our Human Services Club students will be participating in the 'Homeless Count', lead by the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County, collaborating with several of our Human Services partner sites to enlist volunteers. This may be a great opportunity for students in public service, health careers or Student Clubs to learn about homelessness and participate in community services.
The Homeless Count involves a valuable training session, and then going out as teams to interview persons who are homeless, on one night, January 28, 8pm-2am. Yes, the time is late, but many of us have access to warm homes and beds during that time that persons who are homeless do not - so it is a more than reasonable contribution to our community.
Registration is available now via this website, until January 20th, at www.homelesscount.org in order to be assigned to a team. There is also additional information about the organizations, homelessness and this project on the website.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Good luck starting the semester!

“The Work of Christmas,” a poem by civil rights leader and theologian Dr. Howard Thurman:
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among sisters and brothers,
To make music in the heart.
